In South Carolina, 1 in 10 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the time they are 18. The Student Bereavement Support Team is a group of volunteers dedicated to helping children cope with the death of a loved one. Each volunteer team member is highly trained in techniques that encourage children dealing with a death to express their thoughts and feeling in an environment that provides the reassurance and support a grieving child needs. Groups range from one child up to eight children. Children served are in 1st through 12th grade. They meet for a period of four to six weeks. Training is provided.
Students are served in schools in Beaufort and Jasper counties.
