Goodwill's Youth Mentoring program is looking for adult volunteer mentors to work with youth ages 9 - 18, once a week, in a small group setting in Brookline/Beechview area.

Volunteers should be positive role models who are willing to listen to youth talk about their daily lives and challenges, be non-judgemental, open and accepting.

The youth in this mentoring group are mostly non-native English Speakers although most are somewhat bi-lingual with varying levels of English/Spanish proficiency. ( The families are from Latin America; English is not usually spoken at home.) These youth struggle with some cultural and language barriers as well as all the "regular issues" teens deal with every day.

Curriculum for this program includes:

  • FUN STUFF-games & activities
  • Digital Photography
  • Music exploration
  • Financial literacy
  • Career Development
  • Job Shadowing
  • Social Skills
  • Career Exploration
  • Listening!

Mentors should be:

  • Willing to spend 2 hours, once a week with the youth
  • Willing to spend 1 - 2 hours preparing for mentoring sessions
  • Attend mentor training(s)
  • Be willing to submit to background check
    • Be aged 21 and above to be a Mentor
    • Be aged 16-21 to becme a Peer Mentor
    • Agree to a 1 year committment
