United Against Poverty Volunteer Ambassador Corps

United Against Poverty | 150 West Michigan Street

We would like to invite you to take part in a lunchtime training session to join our Volunteer Ambassador Corps. Volunteer Ambassadors help us greet clients and help them sign up for FREE memberships in our Member Share Grocery Program, lead campus tours and represent our organization at off-site, public events.

Responsibilities include:

? Representing the UP Centers at off-site, public events

? Leading scheduled and unscheduled campus tours

? Greeting clients & answering questions at our main welcome desk

? Assisting clients with the membership application process

? Entering confidential client data into our client database system

? Creating new client membership cards

? Maintaining all paper and electronic member files

While this is a position that allows for you to be seated at most times, it is a very fast-paced environment. Volunteers must be able to practice excellent customer service with a diverse population and be highly organized. Experience with computers and database software is a must. Being multi-lingual, while not required, is preferred.

A 2-hour advanced training session is required to become qualified to work at the Welcome Desk in our Member Share Grocery Program. These are held on the first Saturday of every month at noon, and lunch will be provided. Once completed, volunteers will be able to begin assisting at our Welcome Desk. Once a volunteer has completed 20 hours of service, he/she will be designated as a "Volunteer Ambassador." We’re looking for a volunteer(s) who can commit to at least two 3-hour shift a week for a minimum of 13 weeks. This is also a great opportunity for couples who wish to volunteer together.

If interested, please contact Jalisa Hankerson at 407-650-0774 or jalisa@upcenters.org

About United Against Poverty

Location:

150 West Michigan St., Orlando, FL 32806, US

Mission Statement

To help those in need to transform their lives by providing food, crisis care, opportunities for education and employment, and a hand up to families , individuals and children who are fighting to break the cycle of poverty

Description

United Against Poverty is the only national organization to provide families with both emergency food supplies and the opportunity to obtain highly subsidized groceries, including hygiene products, six days a week. We provide a comprehensive approach to fight and reduce long-term, poverty related hunger. Additionally, our Passport Out of Poverty model is a holistic, multi-pronged approach that breaks the cycle of poverty through:

  • Offering immediate hunger relief
  • Stabilizing crisis situations
  • Multiplying client purchasing power for food & hygiene items
  • Restoring dignity, self-respect, and a sense of personal responsibility
  • Establishing self sufficiency

Our organization is not affiliated with any religion or faith-based organization. However, those who work here do feel called to this type of mission-based vocation and our founders have embraced a long-term commitment to help families break the cycle of poverty. The United Against Poverty model is unique in that it requires clients to make a contribution of some sort such as attending classes, participating in programs, contributing a percentage of the cost of food or volunteering. We provide ongoing support and establish ongoing relationships with clients. It is the guiding principle of our leadership that people living in poverty do not need empty handouts, but a program that offers a comprehensive hand-up towards a new future.
