Call for Volunteers!
The Office of General Services recently opened a new Visitor Center in the Empire State Plaza. We are searching for new volunteer Ambassadors to assist visitors there and throughout the complex.
This is a terrific opportunity to meet people, perform a real public service and participate in an interesting and stimulating activity.
Volunteers will provide visitor assistance at the following sites:
Corning Tower 42nd Floor Observation Deck: The Corning Tower is the tallest building in the state outside of New York City, with beautiful views of the Capital Region from the 42nd floor Observation Deck. Volunteers staff the OB Deck, offering information and directions to visitors.
Empire State Plaza: The Empire State Plaza is a unique government complex with a world-class art collection, museum, performing arts center and more. Volunteers staff the Visitor Center and Information booths on the Concourse level of the Plaza and in the Capitol, offering directions and assistance to visitors.
New York State Capitol: The historic Capitol has served as the seat of government for New York since the 1880s and is a marvel of late 19th century architecture. Volunteers assist the many visitors, tourists and school groups who come to the Capitol every day.
Other opportunities, like becoming a tour guide, may be available after earning volunteer experience.
Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.--1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m.--4:00 p.m.
Volunteers must be available for a minimum of one morning or afternoon per week.
Free parking is provided!
Volunteers should enjoy working with the public, have good personal skills and be comfortable with walking.
Contact our office and you will receive a short application. We will contact you to see if the program is a good fit for you.
After interviews, new volunteers will be trained by our staff. If we do not currently have openings during times you are available, we will add you to a list of prospective Ambassadors to be contacted in the future.
