You will work with middle school students in small groups (4-7 students). These are students who have chosen to take an elective class that supports college readiness. The students are primarily in the "academic middle" with high potential, but some academic struggle. Many aspire to be the first in their family to attend college. Students bring questions they are confused about in other content classes to their tutorial group. The tutor facilitates the group of students in a Socratic Tutorial, where students learn by asking each other questions. Students learn not only the answer to the problem, but critical thinking and problem solving steps. Training is provided for you, the tutor, in this highly effective, research based method, which was developed by AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination - see www.avid.org for more information). Have the satisfaction of helping an adolescent develop college and career readiness skills.

Upcoming training dates beginning in September and running through February. Begin working with students in Fall 2017. Make a difference in just 1-2 hours a week! All tutoring times are during the school day, between 8 AM and 4 PM.
