BECOME A SILVERADO HOSPICE VOLUNTEER!
Silverado Hospice is looking for volunteers to join our team. Our patient's are terminally ill and in their final stages of life. As a Hospice Volunteer you will be visiting patients in their own homes, Silverado communities or other facilities. You'll be assigned to a patient as close to your home as possible. We need volunteers who are willing to read to our patients, hold their hand, and learn life experience by listening to the narratives and histories of hospice patients. At Silverado Hospice, we hold sacred the end-of-life passage that is journeyed by our patients and their loved ones. Volunteers play an integral part in how we compassionately meet their needs.
As a Hospice Volunteer you will visit patients in their own homes, Silverado communities or other facilities. You will have the opportunity to offer support for all non-medical needs such as providing companionship and socialization, running errands and assisting with family needs. Are you willing to be a compassionate witness to those who are among the most vulnerable in our world, to hold their hands, to listen to their life stories? If so, please respond to this posting and begin your journey with Silverado Hospice as a Volunteer today!
Here are a few Silverado videos that speak to our mission, please have a look:

Every patient is different but most requests are volunteers visiting patients during meal times (9am,12pm, and 5pm Monday -Sunday) and/or for 2-3 hours to run errands for patients. You and family/patient would coordiante your schedules.
WE RESPECTFULLY ONLY ASK FOR SERIOUS VOLUNTEER APPLICATNTS. APPLICATION PROCESS CAN BE LENGTHY AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE OUR TIME AWAY FROM PATIENT CARE IS TO ENSURE MORE VISITS WITH PATIENTS IN THE LONG RUN.
About Silverado Hospice
1900 S. Norfolk Street, San Mateo, CA 94403, US
MISSION Silverado Hospice’s mission is to affirm the cycle of life by enhancing the quality of living for those at the end of life. The Silverado standard is to care compassionately for patients and their families and to empower those we serve to have quality of life options that afford them comfort and dignity.
*We serve San Francisco and San Mateo Counties*
Silverado Hospice honors the value of each life by empowering the patient and family to make supported choices in end-of-life care, enhancing comfort, relieving suffering and supporting effective grieving.
We believe that Silverado Hospice patients have the right to continue life to the fullest extent possible according to their circumstances, and in fostering opportunities for growth and fulfillment. We further recognize a patient and their family’s decision-making rights in relation to continuing medical treatments as well as their right to withdraw treatment when its benefits are outweighed by their burdens.
At Silverado Hospice, we provide our staff with a well-organized, positive and motivating work environment that promotes their independence and decision-making at the lowest level practical. We value their input and provide them with extensive staff training and a competitive compensation package.
A maximum effectiveness and efficiency of services is maintained by staying on the leading edge of new research findings, participating with ongoing research projects, focusing on disease prevention and chronic disease management. Furthermore, Silverado will continuously develop new and innovative systems and techniques to prolong its patients’ ability to live a dignified life, relate to their family and meet the needs of our referral parties and staff by providing the highest quality cost-effective services to our patients on a day-to-day basis
We'll work with your schedule.
