Henry the Elephant is our official mascot! All volunteers receive a T shirt with this logo to wear while helping us host this exciting evening event for kids and their adults.

About

Help co-host a scavenger hunt style exploration of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History museum for a big crowd of 8 - 12 year old boys and girls (and their chaperones). Volunteers will encourage and inspire these kids by leading creative learning activities at various stations in the museum.

We need volunteers for the following shifts - 6 pm to 11 pm and dates:

Friday, November 2

Volunteer Tasks include: Arrive at 6 pm for orientation, then go set up activity tables, chairs, and supplies around the various halls in the museum. Some lifting will be required (up to 15 lbs). The big "event" at the sleepover is exploration of many museum halls, with arts and crafts activities, demonstrations, and games. You will be assigned to one of these activities with a volunteer partner (given a script and detailed instructions at the Orientation) to lead throughout the night. Around 10:45 pm we clean-up/load-out all the activities, check in with staff, and then you can go home! Some flexibility in assignments should be expected, as last-minute changes do happen.

You will get to go home and sleep in your own beds, and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you helped all these children to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience they will never forget!
