THANK YOU for your interest! Sacramento Stand Down 2018 needs volunteers primarily from August 23 - August 26 help in caring for approximately 250 or more homeless and at-risk veterans. We also have opportunities now! We look forward to having you join us.
You all know someone in the military or who has defended our country. Now think of them as homeless. It’s hard to imagine, isn’t it? Unfortunately, there are hundreds of homeless veterans in the Sacramento area. There have been thousands of homeless veterans who have been helped by the Sacramento Stand Down ever since 1992. ("Stand Down" is a military term for providing temporary relief from the front lines of combat by moving troops to a safe and secure place where they can receive medical attention, food, sleep off the ground, and recuperate before going back to combat.) On a middle weekend in September, hundreds of volunteers show up at Mather Park to help homeless veterans regain a measure of self-respect and assistance in coping with their challenging lives on the street or in temporary housing. If you want to give something back to those whom have already given much to our country, join us in standing up for veterans at the Sacramento Stand Down.
