About The Lydia Project

Mission Statement
The mission of The Lydia Project is to provide cancer patients support for their financial and emotional needs, including lodging and transportation services, in order to facilitate their treatment and healing.
Description
Men, women, and children diagnosed with any type cancer receive financial and supportive services from The Lydia Project. Incorporating as a charity in 2004, Lydia began as a small, caring tote operation and over time has grown to a full service agency that has become a place to go for cancer figh ters. Routinely, decisions are made for same-day care for oncology patients needing lodging, transport, prescriptions, medical supplies, utilities assistance, and encouragement. Transport services include travel to rural cities to bring patients to Augusta for treatment at two Augusta Oncology practices, two Georgia Cancer Center locations, Georgia Radiation Therapy, or Doctors Hospital Radiation. Lydia built its lodging center in 2013.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, The Lydia Project never closed, remaining open every day. Eighty-eight percent of individuals referred were low- to moderate-income (LMI) persons, making less than 80% of their areas’ median income. Lydia serves the senior population more (58% in 2020) than all other ages served.
