Victims of crime in this community need YOUR help. Our volunteers are quiet heroes for those suffering as a result of a crime. We provide education & compassionate support to empower women and men in our community. We need assistance in all of the following areas: 24-hr Crisis Line, Victim Advocacy at Hospitals and Police Stations, Crisis Counseling, DWI Victim Impact Panel & Fundraising.
Prior to volunteering on our crisis line, individuals will go through a 40-hour training, becoming certified in NYS through the Department of Health as Rape Crisis Counselor. Trainings are held twice a year in the fall and spring. Fall training begins in September. Spring training begins in February. Part of the training includes an online module set, and the other portion of the training will be completed in-person at our office, primarily on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 5pm. After the initial training concludes, you will be able to sign up for shifts at your convenience. Shifts are 8-hours in length and are typically evenings, weekends, and holidays. You will answer the crisis line from your own phone from the comfort of your home.
To be considered for this volunteer opportunity, you must complete an application on our website: www.cvac.us/volunteer
