Volunteers are the heart of hospice and play a vital role in the total care of the patient. There are many ways to use your talents and lend a hand to those in need.
We are currently looking for people to be Veteran Serving Veteran Volunteers. As a Veteran Serving Veteran Volunteer, you will have the honor of extending a warm hand of friendship to military veterans with serious illness and those nearing the end of life. Veterans Serving Veterans offers a special bond only those with military experiences share and a way to pay tribute to those who have served our country - your military brothers and sisters. These volunteers have the unique ability to foster relationships in which life review and healing may take place. The camaraderie created between veterans has proven to be supportive for all involved.
Some of the ways you could help:
Visit military veteran patients
Take part in special pinning ceremonies for veterans
Present appreciation certificates
Assist in replacing lost medals
Share specialty holiday events
Please call 614-456-0070 or email the volunteer coordinator at volunteer@stjosephshospice.com to find out more information.
If you are chosen to serve as a St. Joseph's Hospice Volunteer, a drug screening, background check, TB test and orientation/training must be complete before visiting with patients.
Volunteers are encouraged to wait at least one year following the death of an immediate family member before volunteering.

Mission Statement
St. Joseph's Hospice mission is to provide quality end-of-life care through listening, educating and responding to the needs of those we serve, our community and our team.
Description
St. Joseph's Hospice provides individualized programs of physical, emotional, spiritual and practical care for people in the last phases of an incurable disease, with an emphasis on control of pain and other symptoms. The program is reflective of a spirit and idea of caring that emphasizes comfort and dignity for the dying, making it possible for them to remain independent for as long as possible and in familiar surroundings. Hospice care is centered on the patient/family/caregiver. Hospice personnel respects and responds to the unique differences in family/caregiver lifestyle, values and wishes.
Utilizing an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, home makers, home health aides, volunteers, spiritual counselors, bereavement counselors and others, St. Joseph's Hospice strives to deliver state-of-the art hospice care services, support and palliative (comfort) care to our patients so they can live as fully and comfortably as possible.
