Set up at WIC
Carolyn Morris, sets up clothing for free distribution at WIC

We need a volunteer coordinator to manage our volunteers on Tuesdays while we distribute free clothing through the WIC Clinic at The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District at 201 West Kenyon Road Champaign. The responsibilities include: ensuring set up and tear down of clothing distribution tables, coordinating volunteers for various shifts, describing the tasks to volunteers and guiding them through completing them. The volunteer coordinator does not need to be present all day but should be present at the start and finish of the day, at each shift change and needs to stay with new volunteers when possible to make them more comfortable and to aid in tasks. This acitivity is extremely rewarding as you get to exeprience the joy of giving! Recipients are ussually suprised at the opportunity to pick out free clothing for their children, and are very appreciative. This is also the most effective part of what we do, we count the number of items distributed and can see how many people we are helping first hand! We'll also consider a Volunteer Coordinator who can coordinate for just half of the day as well.

About His Kid's Closet

Location:

201 W Kenyon Road, Champaign, IL 61821, US

Mission Statement

His Kid's Closet's purpose is to help people in need by providing them with clothing and or other necessary items at little or no cost. Our purpose is to promote social welfare and relief of the poor and distressed or the underprivileged and to lead people to a meaningful relationship with God.

Description

His Kid's Closet takes donated clothing and redistributes it for free or at a low cost in the community. We are a federally tax exempt 501c3, making any donations tax deductible. We give out free clothes on Tuesdays at the Champaign WIC clinic from 9-4 volunteer support permitting. His Kid's Closet accepts donations and also accepts orders from school social workers for specific items. Teachers, parents and social workers are all welcome to identify needs and make requests. We also accept donations of non-necessity items in order to sell them to cover operational costs, as well as donations of necessity items which are sometimes sold at very low prices in order to help cover costs as well. For example we might sell a highchair or a stroller for $5, in order to see it get into the hands of someone who may NEED it. We envision growth to serve a larger portion of the community and see our overall goal as reducing local poverty, and aim to empower rather than enable our clients and hope to grow to this end.
