About

This is a once in a lifetime chance to get behind the scenes and involved with the conservation work of a game reserve. Shamwari Game Reserve is a world renowned, 25,000 Big Five reserve.

Volunteers have the opportunity to assist with many short and long term projects. These may involve:

  • Game Monitoring: Rhinos, Elephants, Predators
  • Game Count
  • Telemetry Tracking
  • Restoration & Rehabilitation of Reserve Landscapes
  • Management of Breeding Centre
  • Alien Plant Control
  • Community Projects

There is also a weekly chance for volunteers to work at the Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary. As well as a chance for individuals to take the Ranger Field Guide Training Programme. This is available for those wanting to enter the field as professional guides. You will learn how to safely approach and interpret animal behaviour, African tracks and signs and other aspects of nature guiding. At the end you will receive a nationally recognised FGASA Level 1 Field Guiding course certificate.

Volunteers can join year round from 2 to 12 weeks in duration. The costs for the project are as follows: 2 weeks is £695, 3 weeks is £975, 4 weeks is £1255, 6 weeks is £1795 and 8 weeks is £2335.
