This is a once in a lifetime chance to get behind the scenes and involved with the conservation work of a game reserve. Shamwari Game Reserve is a world renowned, 25,000 Big Five reserve.
Volunteers have the opportunity to assist with many short and long term projects. These may involve:
- Game Monitoring: Rhinos, Elephants, Predators
- Game Count
- Telemetry Tracking
- Restoration & Rehabilitation of Reserve Landscapes
- Management of Breeding Centre
- Alien Plant Control
- Community Projects
There is also a weekly chance for volunteers to work at the Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary. As well as a chance for individuals to take the Ranger Field Guide Training Programme. This is available for those wanting to enter the field as professional guides. You will learn how to safely approach and interpret animal behaviour, African tracks and signs and other aspects of nature guiding. At the end you will receive a nationally recognised FGASA Level 1 Field Guiding course certificate.

The main areas of focus are wildlife and habitat conservation, environmental education and management, permaculture and organic agriculture and cultural development. We run projects in various countries around the world.
