Summer Fellows for Get Covered America will work closely with staff, volunteers, and partners to get uninsured Americans up to speed on the opportunity to enroll in affordable, quality health insurance made available by the Affordable Care Act. At our DC Headquarters, fellows will have a key role in facilitating on-the-ground work in the states.

All fellows will talk with consumers about the opportunity to enroll in new health coverage options made available by the Affordable Care Act, recruit and train volunteers, and collaborate with partners to get the word out about the new health coverage options. While all fellows will share core responsibilities, fellows will also have the opportunity to gain more advanced skills by participating various tracks, including:

Mission Statement

ens of millions of Americans stand to benefit from more accessible and affordable health care in the wake of health reform, creating an historic opportunity to improve the health and well-being of a significant portion of our society. However, getting all individuals into the health system will not be easy. Experience from previous reforms suggests that there are significant barriers that prevent many people from enrolling--and staying enrolled--in health coverage, and that federal and state governments will need assistance to fully address the "enrollment gap." We believe the "enrollment gap" can be addressed by creating a seamless consumer-friendly enrollment process, and by making a coordinated, concerted, and wide-reaching effort to ensure that Americans know how and where to sign up for coverage.

Enroll America is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to maximize the number of uninsured Americans who enroll in health coverage made available by the Affordable Care Act. Enroll America is a collaborative organization, working with partners that span the gamut of health coverage stakeholders--health insurers, hospitals, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, employers, consumer groups, faith-based organizations, civic organizations, and philanthropies--to engage many different voices in support of an easy, accessible, and widely available enrollment process.

Enroll America accomplishes its work by engaging a wide variety of organizations with a stake in enrolling the uninsured in health coverage. Our partners include health insurers, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, employers, consumer organizations, faith-based organizations, civic organizations, and philanthropies.

  • We track the latest information on "best practices" for optimizing enrollment and share that information widely.
  • We provide guidance and assistance to help states and the federal government adopt streamlined and user-friendly enrollment policies, procedures, and practices.
  • We work to raise awareness of enrollment options among the uninsured and to broaden the range of channels through which uninsured individuals can enroll.

Description

Get Covered America is a nonprofit, nonpartisan campaign of Enroll America focused on raising public awareness and engaging consumers about their new, affordable health insurance options.

Who we are: Our staff and volunteers are a collaborative, hard-working, innovative group comprised of health care policy wonks, numbers nerds, educators, organizers, and all-around smart people committed to one mission: connecting people to the right resources and information about these new health insurance options. That way, you can feel confident about choosing a health insurance plan that’s right for you, your family, and your budget.

Why we do what we do: One out of every six Americans is currently living without insurance. Close to 80 percent of the uninsured are working families. But when each state’s Health Insurance Marketplace opens in October, millions of Americans will get access to quality, affordable health insurance. Get Covered America is here to let you know about this life-changing opportunity, answer your questions, and help guide you through the process.

What we’re about: We’re about the people, not the politics. Yes, there’s a lot of confusion out there, but we’re here to cut through the clutter, and have a conversation with you. With dedicated field teams and passionate volunteers in communities all over the country, we’re ready to arm you and your neighbors with the information you need to understand your health insurance options--including where to go to get unbiased, free help with your application, in weighing your options, and to determine if you qualify for financial assistance. (Hint: Many will!)

GetCoveredAmerica.org is your guide on how to get ready to shop for health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Here, you can get answers to your questions, use our helpful tools, as well as read personal stories on what finally having affordable health insurance will mean for millions of Americans like you. Oh, and you can start the application process, so you can get covered!

In short, we’re here to help.
