What is Cooking Matters
Cooking Matters’ cooking-based nutrition education classes are powered by volunteers and their passion for the communities we serve. Each class is built around a hands-on cooking lesson designed to teach the basics of healthy eating, nutrition, cooking, food safety, and food budgeting.
Class Assistant Duties: Class Assistants help instructors and facilitators with classroom setup, food preparation, food shopping, class activities, and cleanup.
Class Details: Courses are six weeks long, with classes meeting once per week. Class assistants are needed for three hours each week. The classes are hosted by partner sites in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, and Wayne counties.
Training: All NEW volunteers must attend a training class at Gleaners Community Food Bank before volunteering.
Interest: Once you submit your interest form on VolunteerMatch, we will reach out to you with more details.
