Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
What is Cooking Matters Cooking Matters’ cooking-based nutrition education classes are powered by volunteers and their passion for the communities we serve. Each class is built around a hands-on cooking lesson designed to teach the basics of healthy eating, nutrition, cooking, food safety, and food budgeting.
Nutrition Instructor Description: Nutrition instructors are usually either graduates of or enrolled in a dietetics program, or have at least two years experience working in nutrition or dietetics.
Class Details: Courses are six weeks long, with classes meeting once per week. Nutrition Instructors are needed for three hours each week. The classes are hosted by partner sites in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, and Wayne counties.
Training: All NEW volunteers must attend a training class at Gleaners Community Food Bank before volunteering.
