What is Cooking Matters
Cooking Matters’ cooking-based nutrition education classes are powered by volunteers and their passion for the communities we serve. Each class is built around a hands-on cooking lesson designed to teach the basics of healthy eating, nutrition, cooking, food safety, and food budgeting.
Culinary Instructor Description:
Culinary instructors are usually either graduates of or enrolled in a two-year culinary training program, or have at least two years experience working as a cook or chef.
Class Details: Courses are six weeks long, with classes meeting once per week. Culinary Instructors are needed for three hours each week. The classes are hosted by partner sites in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, and Wayne counties.
Training: All NEW volunteers must attend a training class at Gleaners Community Food Bank before volunteering.
