If you're passionate about the arts or arts education and are eager to engage with children in an educational setting, this is the perfect opportunity for you!
Milwaukee Public Schools is the largest public school district in Wisconsin. We're preparing for Summer Academy, and we need your help! Volunteer as an Artist Assistant and provide in-class supplemental support to students alongside an artist from either the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, or Arts@Large. As an Artist Assistant, individuals have an opportunity to instill a life-long passion for the arts in students. In addition, Artist Assistants can gain experience working and observing a classroom in action and gain valuable classroom experience while giving back to the community.
Volunteers will complete a wide range of duties, which will likely vary from day to day. Duties may include, but are not limited to, assisting with visual, musical, and theater arts projects and events in the the classroom, working on projects with small groups of students within the classroom and focusing on one or two students to provide additional support or encouragement.
Volunteers must be comfortable taking initiative when working with small groups of students or with individual students. Experience in a classroom setting or experience working with children is preferred but not required. Experience or interest in visual, musical, or theater arts is preferred.
Shifts are 7:30 - 9:30 a.m., 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. or 7:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Volunteers will be able to select the number of weeks they would like to serve, between June 28 and July 28.
