Are you interested in engaging with the local food system in a fun way? Join Garden To Table's Neighborhood Harvest Program (NHP) as we harvest fruit trees from San Jose's backyards! We will meet and carpool to 1-2 homes, where we harvest several hundred pounds of fruit ranging from oranges and avocados to apricots and figs .

The NHP is cultivating San Jose's urban food forest by allowing residents to share their excess fruit with local food programs, in order to address food waste and a lack of affordable healthy food options. These events are a great way to build community, learn about the challenges facing our local food system, and make new friends.

Age minimum (with adult): 10
Age minimum (with volunteer waiver signed by parent/guardian if 16 or 17): 16

About Garden to Table

Location:

220 W Taylor Street, San Jose, CA 95110, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to educate and create a network of food systems that builds community and improves access to healthy food.

Description

Urban residents have been disconnected from where their food comes from for generations and Garden to Table believes this is a central reason why public health has steadily deteriorated. Food is a fundamental part of everyday life and it should be grown where people live.

In October of 2013, Garden to Table installed 2,500 square feet of raised beds on a previously vacant lot to develop Taylor St Farm. It is a one acre urban farm located in downtown San Jose.
Our mission is to educate and create a network of food systems that builds community and improves access to healthy food. We do this by growing unique and delicious produce on our farm, educating the public. We strive to transform the way cities are fed and connect people with great local food!
