The Friendly Visiting Program pairs volunteers with home bound seniors to provide company and friendship. Through this program, seniors will be able to gain a sense of contributing to society, engage in new activities, and new conversations. Volunteers will be given a chance to hone interpersonal skills like listening, sharing, expressing compassion, and empathy. Our hopes are to minimize senior isolation and bring them a smile and give them something to look forward to every week. This is an opportunity to have a mutually rewarding relationship with a senior. The volunteer will contact an older adult once per week. Volunteer can do in person visits or choose to do remote phone calls. We provide services to seniors that reside from North 110th street and West of Fifth Avenue to the Northern tip of Manhattan. Volunteers provide one visit per week to the senior and virtual visits are an option. Volunteers are required to commit for a minimum of six months. Potential volunteers will go through an application process, background check, and orientation. One visit per week for a period of six months or more can make a difference in a senior’s life.
