Volunteer Remotely with Open Door Learning Center - Rondo!
Partner with an adult immigrant or refugee learning English. Meet new people from your community and work with them to build literacy skills and achieve their goals through distance education.

- No experience or diploma needed - we’ll provide all necessary training
- English speakers of all levels are welcome and encouraged to volunteer
- Time commitment is 20-60 minutes once per week
- Must be 18 years old to volunteer
- We strongly encourage volunteers who are people of color, indigenous, immigrants and refugees, LBGTQ+ and people with disabilities.
Anytime Remote Volunteer Opportunities (Using the WhatsApp Phone App)
Remote ESL Tutor
Tutor adults one-on-one on reading, writing, speaking and listening in English. Volunteer 30-60 minutes per week over Zoom with 1-3 learners on a weekly schedule that is convenient for you and the learner. All training is provided.
Ideal candidate will demonstrate ability to:
- Autonomously schedule and keep meetings
- Rephrase and repeat instructions in a clear manner
- Use strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills to create a focused, warm and welcoming learning environment
ESL Small Group Leader: Work with a coordinator and other volunteers to provide ESL instruction to immigrants and refugee scholars. Tutors join the large class led by the coordinator and then lead small group lesson activities in Zoom breakout rooms. Lessons, routines and training provided.
Choose one shift per week on Mon, Tues, Wed, OR Thurs:
- conversation lab 4-5 p.m.
- pre-beginning 4-6 p.m.
- beginning 6-8 p.m.
- intermediate 6-8 p.m.

Description
Founded in 1972, Literacy Minnesota is Minnesota's only non-profit, volunteer-based, education provider that operates statewide. Through a network of over 100 community and school-based programs, we provide free classes for individuals lacking the most basic reading, writing and English-speaking skills. We serve both native-born Americans and refugees and immigrants.
