A few of the volunteers for The Fort at No. 4.

Docents/Intrepreters and Demonstrators are vital to the operation of the Museum. These individuales interact directly with Fort visitors helping to provide guided tours of buildings, and/or gardens, and/or grounds, answering questions about the era and the Fortified Village (museum).

Docents/Intrepreters help visitors gain a better understanding of the colonial era and life on the frontier in the Upper Valley. Intrepreters/Docents are frequently also demonstrators providing visitors with visual connections to life along the Connecticut River.

Some of the areas where Docent/Intreprers may serve:

  • Textile Production
  • 18th Century Foodways
  • Religion in the Colonial Era
  • Colonial & Native Gardening
  • Joinery
  • Herbal Medicine
  • Truck House
  • Cross Cultural Relationships (Native, French, English, dutch)
  • Surveying
  • Blacksmithing

Description

A reconstruction of the original fortified portion of Charlestown (nee Number 4) The Fort at No. 4 is an Open Air/Living History Museum whch focuses on civilian life in the Upper Connecticut Valley during the Colonial and Early Federal Eras. The Museum uses tge lens of this early period to engender a greater understanding of contemporary life.
