Suicide Prevention Telephone Hotline Volunteer

Seeking caring, compassionate volunteers to staff our suicide prevention hotline. Samaritans of FR/NB suicide prevention hotline is open to all callers, 15 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our hotline is available free to anyone who needs support. Kare Calls are made to seniors who might otherwise be lonely and isolated.
Each volunteer participates in a 35-hour mandatory training program which includes working with a trained volunteer. Trainings are scheduled for September 2019, November 2019 and February 2020. Volunteers are asked to cover a 5-hour shift or two 2.5 hour shifts weekly. A minimum of a 6-month commitment is expected.
Volunteers may be requested to participate in local health fairs on behalf of the agency.
Internship and work-study are offered to college students as well as community service opportunities.
Applicants must undergo a background check during to be considered.
