ORGANIZATION: Learning to Work

Could you illustrate what it is like to work for a business by volunteering to help in a work ready event? Showcase the World of Work.

Just around 45 minutes to help present to about 25 students but in total your support will help over 500 students.

The session - The purpose of the event is to introduce students to the importance of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, maths) based careers and share LMI. It will encourage them to consider critical elements such as personal branding, the importance of networking as well as to highlight the need to develop their skills set

Your role - Your role is to deliver the STEAM Employability Workshop as interactively as possible. Maximum impact is often obtained when students hear from volunteers who are in the world of work. Please add anecdotes re your own experience as this enriches the piece. You will working with students who have a variety of different learning styles - please try and make your session as interactive as possible. Ask questions, get them to write down their thoughts, maybe in partners etc LTW has resources we can share with you pens/paper etc.

How the session will run - Each business volunteer will run a fully scripted workshop independently. These will be in 20 classrooms across the school with Years 11 and 12 (age 15 to 17). The students will be in their form groups with a teacher, so approximately 25 in each room. Time is extremely tight so punctuality is critical to the success of this piece. We will engaging with 515 students.

Description

We currently support over 30,000 children in the local area running curriculum events to assist local schools. The local area being Bracknell, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and Slough Borough. We reach out to support both Primary and Secondary education therefore age 4-19yrs. We look for corporate membership and school membership to fund the charitable organisation and have been running successfully for over two decades. We also survive off the generous volunteering offered by both individuals and corporations.
