The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. A volunteer in this position would assist Harford County Office on Aging Senior Center staff with set-up, decorations, setting up food and drink, greeting senior center members, and other tasks associated with any special event, depending on what the event is. Some special events are held on a regular basis such as Movie & Popcorn and Bingo. Volunteer(s) may wish to sign up as the designated person(s) responsible for one of these events each month. Example: The Move & Popcorn volunteer would be responsible for setting the room up for the movie and setting out the snacks and drinks. Some senior centers may also require volunteer to select a movie and operate the DVD equipment. Hours and days would be as needed. Must undergo a mandatory kitchen training and learn about basic food handling safety measures. Must be willing to abide by the guidelines and procedures outlined in the Volunteer Handbook. SPECIAL EVENTS HELPERS MAY BE NEEDED AT ANY OF HARFORD COUNTY'S SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTERS: ABERDEEN, BEL AIR, EDGEWOOD, FALLSTON, HAVRE DEGRACE. Senior Centers operate Mon-Fri, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm.
