Volunteers report to the project for setting up serving meals at 11:00 a.m., M, W, and F. Volunteers leave between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The commitment level of the volunteers varies. A few volunteers work each day. Some work only one day weekly. Volunteers have the freedom to determine how many hours he/she will work during day(s) he/she is working. Volunteers are needed for serving and clean up. There is also an opportunity for food preparation if desired. We have a shoe collection as a fundraiser and there is a need for banding and counting shoes as well.

The outreach ministry only serves carry out meals. The volunteer stands behind a plastic barrier that prevents contact from the patrons. There is no physical contact. Masks are worn by all and only one patron is permitted to enter the area where the meals are handed out by the volunteer/picked up by the patron. Patrons use hand sanitizer upon initially entering the outreach ministry.

Mission Statement

To alleviate the burden of hunger by providing hot meals to community friends and neighbors 3 times per week, reciprocating God's love for all humankind.

Description

HarvestTime Inner City Ministries (HTICM) is an ecumenical mission project that serves hot meals to the community three days per week (M, W, & F) from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. The mission project has been in operation for over 20 years.

The project serves 100 - 300 meals per week. Each meal includes a meat, 2 vegetables or 1 vegetable and starch, bread (usually), dessert and drink. The number varies depending on the weather, time of the month (with respect to the food stamp distribution/mailing and/or monthly fixed income), and school closings. Considering the need to ensure menu items are at the project, to ensure volunteers report to the project so it is open for serving meals, and in attending to maintenance matters, operation of the project and preparation for the serving days is ongoing.
