The Norfolk County Sheriff's Department seeks volunteers age 55+ for its programs. NCSO is dedicated to housing inmates in a humane environment as they believe the men who are there should be not only under the department's custody but also its care. The Sheriff's department offers pre-release inmates various programs to enrich their skills in education, literacy, parenting, English and vocation. As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to be placed in a one-on-one meetup to build a rapport and relationship that will be of great help to a pre-release inmate. The Inmate Mentoring process is as follows: Pre-release inmates are screened as a candidate for this service. Based on certain similarities and needs you are matched with a pre-release inmate. The "match meeting" is the first time for you both to meet and talk for an hour to see if it is a good fit. Background data on the pre-release inmate is given to you including the town they are from, their past occupation, why there are under custody, and their sentence. If the match is a good fit, you continue meeting weekly for an hour at a time. If it is not a good fit, you are free to say and another match will be given to you.
