Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
South Shore Elder Services is committed to providing quality services to elders, caregivers and community members. They offer volunteer opportunities in the following towns: Milton, Randolph, Quincy, Braintree, North Weymouth, Hull, Holbrook, Norwell, Hingham, Scituate and Cohasset.
Current volunteer opportunities include:
Meals on Wheels drivers- Our Nutrition Department delivers over 1,200 nutritious meals to homebound elders Monday-Friday. Volunteers are needed for 1 to 5 days a week, midmornings, 1-2 hours a day. A valid MA driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required. Initial training is required, with additional enrichment opportunities offered. NOTE: Volunteers especially needed for the Randolph, South Weymouth and Quincy Hough's Neck locations.
Meals on Wheels Kitchen Assistant: Kitchen assistants help to bag lunches and count out meals for pick up by Meals on Wheels drivers at local meal sites. They also may help serve Congregate meals. Volunteers are needed for 1-2 hours on weekday mornings from 8am - 10am.
