Founded in 1971, the Cambridge Women's Center offers FREE services to women and is open 6 days/week (Monday-Friday 10am-8pm, & Saturday 10am-3pm). We are currently only seeking Friday night 6pm-8pm and Saturday day between 10am-3pm volunteers.
We strive to provide support and community to all women in a comfortable 4-story house a few blocks from Central Square, Cambridge. Our visitors are very diverse, and include: homeless women; women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence and other trauma; women with physical disabilities or mental health challenges; and women of different ages and cultures. The Women's Center is open to all who identify as women.
Volunteers are the heart of the Women's Center. Our helpline is staffed by volunteers. Women call when they are in crisis, looking for emotional support, and/or searching for resources. Volunteers also welcome and assist our Drop-In visitors, who come for support, to use computers, the kitchen, children's/art room, library, and to attend our free groups, which include yoga, sewing, creative writing, trauma support, healing through creative arts workshops, English/Spanish discussion group, Women's NA group, and much more. The groups are all led by volunteers.
Volunteering is a great opportunity to help vulnerable women, expand your horizons, and get to know other amazing volunteers! We are looking for women who can commit at least 2-3 hours a week for a minimum of 4-6 months. You must be interested in listening to and being supportive of other women. Experience in human services and/or activism a plus. Basic orientation and training will be provided.
To apply, please fill out our volunteer application on our website: www.cambridgewomenscenter.org/getinvolved/volunteer.html.
For more information, please email jessye@cambridgewomenscenter.org and send completed applications to that address as well.
Thank you!
