We currently have over 200 men and women who volunteer to become a friend to one of our students. Mentors must commit to a minimum of one year of service and a minimum of two in-person visits per month with the student. While we ask for the minimum commitment, we hope that the relationship develops and that time allows for service well past the one year. The average length of our mentor matches is five years and a few mentors have worked with the same student from Kindergarten to 12th grade.
Denver Kids, Inc. greatly appreciates the time and effort contributed by the many community members who make a tremendous difference in the lives of the students in the Denver Kids, Inc. program. For this reason, Denver Kids, Inc. works with each mentor to assure a satisfactory match, and to provide flexibility to accommodate a volunteer's schedule.
All volunteers must go through a thorough screening and training process and pay a non-refundable screening fee that partially covers the cost of the background check. To begin the mentor process, please visit our website at www.denverkidsinc.org to access the mentor application.
We match mentors two times a year, with the next group of mentors being matched in September 2017.
