How would you like to handle volunteer recruiting efforts and maintain volunteer satisfaction within a growing non-profit organization?

Position Summary:

Our Volunteer Coordinator will be in charge of ensuring that our current volunteers are satisfied and that any new recruits are comfortable with their new roles within our organization. In addition, the Coordinator will be in charge of leading Human Resources team meetings, planning volunteer events, and coming up with fresh ideas to keep volunteers engaged.

We are looking for someone who is able to commit to at least 6 months in this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Schedule and lead Human Resources team meetings

  • Keep track of volunteer hours

  • Assist in recruiting / training new volunteers

  • Coordinate with Director of the organization on a regular basis to ensure goals are being achieved

  • Plan volunteer events

  • Perform the role of the team manager:

    • Work with Director to define quarterly and annual team objectives and milestones

    • Meet regularly with team to assign and manage tasks

    • Build a cohesive, high functioning virtual team by defining and implementing team norms and processes

    • Identify staffing weaknesses and work with the volunteer management team to address these shortcomings

    • Identify staffing needs and work with volunteer management team to define recruiting needs.

    • Interview and onboard new team members


Priority should be to develop and manage team resources rather than perform all the duties yourself.

KSAs (Knowledge, Skills ,and Abilities) Needed

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in order to achieve overall goals

  • Great communication skills

  • Strong desire to lead others to be their best

  • Ability to be a liaison between different members of the organization from the Director and Board members to team leads and volunteers

  • Highly creative with the ability to continually come up with new ideas

  • Experience managing volunteers is preferred but not required

You must be able to commit to a minimum average of 10 hours a month. This is a "virtual" team opportunity which may be performed from home or another location, although we would prefer someone located in the greater Seattle area.

Community Empowerment Network's (CEN’s) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in SantarĂ©m, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are a small organization and so lines of responsibility sometimes overlap, but this provides a terrific opportunity for volunteers to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand their skills.
