Start Something Today and MAKE A DIFFERNECE in a Child's Future!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Pine Belt is in search of, qualified, male and female volunteers who are eager to make a positive impact on the life of a child, while simultaneously improving the community. Mentors are required to spend 4-6 hours per MONTH interacting with a child in activities such as basketball, board games, arts and crafts, going to the park, working on homework, etc.
"Our missionis to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever."
Making a difference! Many mentors acknowledge that making a positive difference in a child’s future is one of the most rewarding commitments they have ever made. Being a mentor fits your lifestyle. Busy people of all ages can get involved by making a schedule that works best for them. Volunteers have the choice of two essential programs: community-based mentoring or site-based mentoring.
Community-based: For as little time as an hour a week, Bigs and Littles meet in the community to share fun activities, stories and a little bit of themselves.
Site-based Mentoring: Bigs and Littles meet once a week in schools, libraries, community centers, etc. and simply have fun together. It's not about being a tutor, it's about being a friend.
Little Brothers and Little Sisters come from all kinds of backgrounds. A volunteer can decide the age of the child he/she prefers to mentor. Some are really little (as young as five) and some are teenagers. Some may live on your block and some a few miles away. What do they all have in common?
They need the friendship and guidance of someone like YOU.
Our Mentoring Works National research proves that a positive relationship between a child and his Big has a direct and measurable impact on the child’s life. Little Brothers and Sisters are:
- More confident in their schoolwork performance
- Able to get along better with their families
- 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
- 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
- 52% less likely to skip school.
