Resale Store Volunteering/Cashier & Customer Service Positions
A fun and flexible way to help homeless pets and generate funds for our shelter is to volunteer at NHS Second Chance and NHS The Closet. Volunteers play an essential role in our store operations by assisting customers, receiving donations, sorting, pricing items and working in conjunction with NHS staff members.
We are looking for volunteers who:
- Enjoy working with people
- Are good at problem solving
- Can commit to a minimum of 3 hrs per shift
- Are at least 14 years of age
- Can follow written and/or spoken direction

Mission Statement
MISSION Nassau Humane Society is dedicated to the humane treatment of all animals; to alleviate their suffering and neglect, to support the human-animal bond, and to foster an environment in which people respect all living creatures. We will pursue workable solutions to the most urgent animal welfare needs of our community, which are animal overpopulation and homeless pets. Our solutions will emphasize the mutual benefit of bringing pets and people together. We will provide rescue and control as a lifeline to animals in need and for the necessary protection of our community. We will encourage and provide for pet adoption, animal-assisted therapy, pet care education, outreach spay and neuter program and other welfare efforts, all in support of our comprehensive community service obligation.

NHS Second Chance is a resale store of gently used and collector items. 100% of the proceeds earned in our store are turned over to the Nassau Humane Society to support homeless animals and FURther our mission.

- Shifts are 4 hrs for adults and 3 hours /afterschool for teens
- Front of the store: Cashiering duties, customer service, straightening & stocking shelves, directing donators to our intake areas. Back of the store: testing electronics, sorting and pricing non-clothing donations & steaming and pricing of clothing.
