Next Step Service Dog - Ginger
A gorgeous lab, Ginger accompanies her veteran everywhere, reducing PTSD anxiety and creating a sense of peace and safety

Hello! If you would love to dogsit for service dogs-in-training in San Diego County, Next Step Service Dogs would love to meet you!

While our dogs are in training, we need periodically need dogsitters and foster care for young service dogs in training --most of them are young adults and partially trained, and ALL of them are wonderful. Because our dogs live with trainers and later with veterans in training, dogsitters may be needed when the trainer is on a trip, the client is ill, or an emergency arises. A basic dog training phase 1 class is provided so that there are no surprises!

Most of our dogs are labrador retrievers; then we have a few standard poodles, a few golden retrievers, a handful of labradoodles.

The dogs are amazing and the trainers are inspiring - consider joining our team! See www.nextstepservicedogs.org.

About Next Step Service Dogs

Location:

PO Box 130487, Carlsbad, CA 92011, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower positive change for veterans with invisible disabilities such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) through the use of expertly-trained service dogs.

Description

Our service dogs greatly improve the veterans’ quality of life, independence, and the sense of being unconditionally loved, respected and protected by a service dog battle buddy. Our service dogs include many rescue dogs that are trained to perform specific tasks and work as described by the American Disabilities Act (ADA).

Standard service dog tasks include getting help, turning on lights, balance support, and retrieval, to name a few. Even more important, the psychiatric service dog tasks include helping a veteran gauge the safety of their surroundings, allowing them to venture into public places without constantly scanning for snipers, hidden bombs and other dangers; reassuring them, allowing them to learn trust and caring again - and maybe smile for the first time in months.

We have plans to create Next Step Training Chapters throughout the country. And we will be hiring veterans as trainers, further enhancing the bonds and effectiveness of our trainer-dog-veteran teams.
