Do you have a passion for dance? Do you enjoy working with children? Are you looking to gain experience and new skills? then volunteering with Dance to Unite, Inc. could be the right volunteer opportunity for you!

Dance to Unite, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to use dance as a vehicle to teach and to celebrate cultural diversity.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEER DANCE TEACHERS AND TEACHER ASSISTANTS!

Qualified applicants are required to have some background in dance but most imporatntly a strong interest and desire to work with inner city children and youth.

A one hour weekly comittment is required throughout the school year (October-June) and availability during after-school hours (3:00-6:00pm).

We offer FREE training in a warm and supportive environment with plently of opportunities for professional and personal growth.

Responsibilities of Volunteer Dance Teachers:

-Become familiar and comfortable with implementing our educational component which includes leading our 5-10 minutes 'Circle Talk' .

*We provide supervision, guidance and support to ensure that everyone is properly trained and fully prepared to implement our educational component.

-Create and teach a year-round dance routine and choose the music that will accompany your choreography.

-Facilitate one special guest artist workshop (which is offered to each Dance to Unite, Inc. Class throught the school year) by briefing students about the style of dance or other artistic medium which is explored that day and collaborate with all those involved in making the workshop a success.

Responsibilities of Dance Teacher Assistants:

-Work closely with a teacher and support her/his efforts in fulfilling all of her/his duties/responsibilities.

-Participate in/or lead a weekly warm-up exercise routine.

-Learn the choreography taught by the teacher by rehearsing a weekly dance routine with the students.

-Assist the teacher with running/managing the classroom by providing positive feedback and addressing inappropriate behaviors when needed.

-Periodically take photos/videos that can be used for our social media (using a camera phone).

-Volunteers who have been with us long enough to show commitment and dedication to our organization are acknowledged by being featured on our organization's website.

-Cultivate new personal and professional contacts.

-Receive a free invitation to our annual benefit and other events.

-Join our Dance to Unite, Inc. Meetup group and meet like-minded people in the local community who share a passion for making a difference.

Description

Dance to Unite,Inc. partners with After School programs to offer weekly free dance classes with an educational component choreographed to represent different cultures of the world. The classes are complemented periodically with special guest artists who conduct workshops to promote our mission of unity and peace.
