  • Office volunteers assist with answering phones and greeting visitors as they enter and exit the office. Occasionally, they help with very light office work and basic cleaning and maintenance. Volunteers are needed for morning and afternoon shifts.
  • Newsletter volunteers assist with articles and layout for the program’s e-newsletter. Computer skills are needed. Time based on deadlines and volunteer’s schedule.

Peninsula READS: Provides literacy skills necessary for adults to function more effectively in their lives and community.

Description

Since 1968, Peninsula READS has served the areas of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and York, by recruiting and training volunteers to provide individual or small group instruction to adults who need to improve their basic reading, writing, and/or English speaking skills. Services are available to adults (18 and over), who are not attending or enrolled in school or college.
