Are you ready to
-Have Fun
-Change a young person's life
-Inspire
-Coach your student through the tough transition years?

If so you are ready to be a mentor! Our mentors are there to help guide the students in creating their lives. They meet with their student 3 times a month, once to attend a workshops where the student learns how to deal with the hardships of middle school, and the 2 other times the mentor and student just hang out and have fun.

At our monthly workshops the students learn skills that will help them navigate different hardships that are typical during middle school. Some of these topics include, cyber bullying, social media safety, healthy living, and drugs and dating violence.

When you and your student meeting for your one-on-one time, you are supposed to have fun, and get to know each other. Your job as a mentor, is to be an older, wiser, friend, and help guide your student to take responsibility for their mistakes and help them learn the rights and wrong of life by talking through all options.

Our mentors meet the students where they are at in life. Each mentor and student relationship is a little different, some matches are going to be more academically driven, while others are going to be more focused on talking about life.

If you're ready to learn more, or ready to commit to making a difference in a student's life, during some of the hardest years they are going through, then email us and we can set up a meeting to discuss this more.

About Empower Mentoring Program

Location:

Mission Statement

To create lasting relationships between mentor and student, in which the student feels empowered to take responsibility for their own life.

Description

Empower Mentoring Program was founded in 2013. Since then, we have been providing adult mentors to middle school students in West Seattle. Our mentors are older, wiser friends to their students, providing support, advice, and sometimes, just a listening ear. Our matches meet three times a month. Two of their meetings are one-on-one, doing activities of their choosing, deepening their bond and connection. Once a month all the matches come together to attend a workshop, where challenging topics are discussed and students learn different skills on how to deal with difficult situations.

While our mentors are acting as older, wiser friends, our students are gaining in their self confidence, their self-esteem is rising, their motivation levels are increasing, and they start to feel valued in their everyday life. Our mission is to create lasting relationships between mentors and students, in which the student feels empowered to take responsibility for their own life. Our goal is to support middle school students now, so that in the future they turn out to be competent, confident, responsible adults.
