ORGANIZATION: Kinship Greater Twin Cities

Kinship is a mentoring program where we match individuals, couples and families to children who need additional adult support in their lives. Most of our families are low income families voluntarily asking for mentors for their children. Many of the families do not speak English as their first language. Having a mentor is a wonderful gift but having one who speaks Spanish is a gift for the whole family. If you enjoy kids and would consider mentoring a boy or girl from a Spanish speaking family please give me a call. We have families throughout the metro and you will be matched to a child near you.

Mission Statement

Kinship Greater Twin Cities believes that every young person needs a role model. Kinship youth are matched with community mentors who foster supportive, holistic, and authentic relationships. Mentors and mentees are carefully matched based on common interests, aspirations and, when desired, faith connections. Kinship believes that the mentoring relationship is a mutually beneficial opportunity for all parties to grow. Kinship commits to providing resources and opportunities for youth and their families throughout the greater Twin Cities.

Description

Kinship actively invites individuals, couples and families into mentoring relationships with boys and girls ages 5-15. Focused on building lasting friendships through fun activities and quality time, the mentoring program creates sustained, supportive connections capable of giving youth the life skills they need to succeed. Kinship's mentoring model requires mentors to spend 2-4 hours per week with their mentee and are encouraged to participate in community events and activities centered around the youth's interests. Discovering new experiences together is also encouraged, opening the door for academic, social, and emotional growth. Life skills and work preparedness are also essential to our mentoring model, as well as optimism for the future and healthy living.
