This literacy-based program pairs mentors/tutors one-on-one with students in grades 1-3, for the school year. These working pairs are supported by BTGCP’s Evening Program Teacher Liz Bamberg. The Mentor/Tutor role is two-fold: showing up consistently to develop a deep and trusting relationship, while supporting the student academically, with an emphasis on reading skills.

Mission Statement

The Mission of Bridge the Gap College Prep (BTGCP) is to provide comprehensive educational and social support for Marin City students 1st - 12th grade through after school and evening tutoring mentoring programs with the goal that the students in our program graduate high school and complete college.

Description

Marin City is a small resilient but underserved community nestled among the more affluent towns of Marin County, CA. BTGCP was founded 15 years ago to close the achievement gap of students by providing 1 to 1 and small group tutoring and mentoring services. The vision of the founders was to change lives and change a community through education. Since its founding, BTGCP has served over over 300 students, of which 80% have graduated high school, compared to a less than 50% high school graduation rate in the rest of Marin City. 60% of our high school graduates are in college or have graduated from college.

Currently, BTGCP offers 3 programs:

* The evening one to one tutoring/mentoring program where students and tutor/mentors are carefully matched to work together for a full academic year for homework and emotional support.

* The NEW Extended Learning Day Program where students 4th through 8 grade meet 2 times a week for 2.5 hours for academic enrichment based on a strong literacy and math program in a college preparatory culture.

Our New High School program serves students in grades 9-12, 4 nights a week. Students are supported by a staff of credentialed teachers as well as one on one tutors one night per week.
