Volunteer at Hebrew SeniorLife Hospice Care and enrich your life while bringing comfort to others. Our community-based hospice serves the Greater Boston Jewish community and others who value the quality of care that Hebrew SeniorLife is known for providing. We are looking for you if you are: a caring person who is able to be present emotionally, spiritually, and physically for others at difficult times; you have had experience with death that is inspiring you to give comfort and help to others; you are reliable and a good communicator; you are able to travel to people's homes in surrounding communities; and, you have that special 'something' that makes a hospice volunteer invaluable to the lives of our patients, families, and our team. We offer extensive training and support and consider you a part of our dedicated team of nurses, social workers, and spiritual caregivers. We are based at our home office in Dedham, MA and serve surrounding communities. Do you have special skills like Reiki, music, massage? Train to be a hospice volunteer and utilize your talents to ease the way for hospice patients and their families. We provide a 20-hour group training program over seven weeks. Minimum service commitment of 2 hours weekly at times convenient for you. Background check, health screening, monthly support/education groups.

Hebrew SeniorLife Hospice Care aims to provide the highest quality hospice service that is responsive to the diverse needs of Jews of all backgrounds and religious or secular preferences, along with people of all faiths and cultures. The hospice seeks to work in partnership with the Jewish Community and its many agencies and synagogues to provide thoughtful understanding of the spectrum of planning and choices for end-of-life care.
Description
Hospice volunteers are the heart of a hospice program as people generously share their time, energy, and compassion with others at the most vulnerable time of their lives.
Volunteers provide assistance to patients and family caregivers. Tasks vary and may include sitting quietly with the patient or engaging in converation, reading aloud, reminiscing, crafting a photo album or scrapbook, transporting a family member for visits or errands, playing an instrument, reiki healing, light meal preparation, and many other possibilities to profide a comforting presence.
Volunteers assist in the hospice office with administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, assisting with projects, mailings, and fundraising.
