Reading Empowers was formed with the mission of improving literacy among young children. Our goal is to instill an interest in reading, at a young age, and our hope is that this will develop into a lifelong love and passion.
This upcoming school semester (Spring 2017), we will be hosting Saturday morning reading sessions at P.S. 1 and P.S. 124 in Lower Manhattan.
We are looking for volunteers to join us on our mission! We will be reading to students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade.
P.S. 1 and P.S. 124 are both located in Chinatown at 8 Henry Street and 40 Division Street, repsectively, in LES Manhattan.
Below are the dates for the Spring 2017 semester.
Each session is about two hours, during which volunteers and students are broken up into groups, with each group consisting of 2-3 volunteers and 6-8 students. The two hour sessions consist of reading, writing, and an arts and crafts activity with the students.
