MAR

The Museum of the American Railroad is looking for volunteers to help with our field trip program. It has been developed to meet the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) requirements. We have a great team which we want to expand as museum visitation grows.

Museum staff and volunteers will provide training and share our knowledge with new volunteers. MAR volunteers must meet the following requirements:

·Be 21 years of age or older;

·Have availability M-F between 9:00 am to 12:00 pm;

·Ability to be mobile and engage groups of children (20-40) for 55-60 minutes at a time;

·Work in varying weather conditions during year-round tours;

·Handle walking on uneven terrain and climbing in/out of railroad equipment;

·Handle stressful situations tactfully with students, teachers, and parents.

No previous railroad knowledge is required, only a desire to learn and share knowledge with others on the importance of the American railroad. Previous experience as a teacher, camp leader, or working with children is a plus.

If interested, please contact us for more information. An application and background check form must be filled out by potential volunteers. If selected for an interview, a staff member will contact you. If selected after the interview process, you will begin a probationary period. After completing 30 hours of volunteer work and satisfactorily meeting museum standards you will become a permanent volunteer.

We will provide training and training materials.

More information can be found at www.historictrains.org.
