Day keeper opportunities to work at the Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse. Join the local group of Volunteers "Breakers" as the keep the light open to the summer time visitors from 10 am to 5 pm on Monday's each week. Volunteer can work morning (9:30 am to !:30 pm) or afternoon shift (1 pm to 5:30 pm) Openings start May 22th and run through Sept. 7th 2020 Volunteer for one day or several.
Ludington North Breakwater: Located at Sterns Park in Ludington,the keepers of the breakwater will have tasks such as collecting money from tours and gift shop sales, share history of the lighthouse with visitors, keep the lighthouse clean, keep gift shop stocked, keep an eye on visitors from not touching the light at the top of the lighthouse, and have fun!
To be a volunteer one must be a member of Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association. Along with member application, the volunteer application and expectations/regulations will need to be filled out, which can be found on our website, www.splka.org. A letter stating why you are interested in becoming a volunteer keeper, a brief resume outlining previous work and volunteer experience and two letters of reference will also be needed. The purpose of Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association (SPLKA) is to restore and preserve Big and Little Sable Lighthouses and the Ludington North Breakwater Light, provide education to the public about the lights, and allow the public to have the opportunity to climb the towers. Volunteers are our strength and are encouraged to play active roles in our program.
By employing over 300 resident lighthouse keepers, we at SPLKA are able to preserve, promote, educate the public, and make the lighthouses open to the global community.
