The Emergency Department Ambassador (EDA) provides comfort and conversations to patinets and families in the Emergency Room. They assist in distributing lunch trays to patients that do not have food restrictions, make certain patients have a pillow, a blanket and other things that can improve their comfort in the emergency room. The goal of the EDA is to provide a friendly and helpful presence, and to be of assistance to the emergency room staff. The Ambassador can also escort family members to the cafeteria or other areas of the hospital, assist with phone charging, and even make certain the patient knows their nurses name. The EDA provides non-medical information. If you are kind and compassionate and feel comfortable assisting in the Emegency Room we could teach you to be an EDA. This position is available Monday - Friday from 12 noon to 3PM. We ask Ambassadors to serve at least one session per week.

Mission Statement
Reach Out and Read at Mount Sinai Medical Center is part of the Reach Out and Read national pediatric early literacy program. Pediatricians encourage parents to read aloud to their young children, and give patients books to take home at all pediatric check-ups from six months to six years of age. Through Reach Out and Read, every child starts school with a home library of at least ten new, developmentally appropriate books. Reach Out and Read volunteers read aloud to children in the pediatric wating area. They are a vital part of the program, because they model apporpriate reading aloud techniques to parents. The volunteers also provide a warm, caring atmosphere for children while they wait for the doctor.
Description
Reach Out and Read at Mount Sinai has a Volunteer Reader Corps (VRC's). VRC's read aloud in the pediatric waiting room to individual children and groups of children. They also advise parents on read aloud techniques. Opportunities exist between 9am-5pm, M-F
