The Heritage Farmstead Museum is looking for long term volunteers to assist with our school tours and docent guided tours. Educational school tours last approximately two hours and are scheduled Tuesday-Thursday mornings during the school year. Most people volunteer for one to two days a week depending on their schedule. Volunteers will be trained to serve as tour guides or assist with our hands on farm activities such as feeding chickens, washing clothes, playing games of the past, reading stories or teaching school house lessons. Students range from 6-12 years old.
Docent guided public tours are held Tuesday-Sunday at 1:30p.m. and last approximately one and a half hours. Volunteers undergo training on local Plano history, turn-of-the-century Texas history, farm and family life. Guided tours are given of the Farrell-Wilson House and grounds. Guides must enjoy being around people, teaching history, and enjoy the outdoors. Set your volunteer days based on your schedule. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet people from all over the world and to assist a vital growing organization!
Potential volunteers must fill company provided background check is required for both of these opportunities. Consider this fun and worthwhile opportunity to give back and preserve history in our community!
