Shelter From the Storm is an all breed cat and dog rescue. We are looking for volunteers to assist us during our adoption clinic on Saturdays. The Adoption Clinic runs from 10am-2pm at Petsmart East. Volunteers help set up kennels and tables, fill water dishes, take dogs for potty breaks, clean soiled kennels, etc. Volunteers also assist potential adopters who would like to meet a cat or dog. Volunteers are an integral part of the adoption process as we can not run our adoption clinic without them. The Adoption Clinic runs every Saturday so volunteers are always needed. The Adoption Clinic is our primary means of having the public meet our adoptable animals and their best means of finding a forever home. Roles at the Adoption Clinics include:

Shelter from the Storm is a Madison, WI based non-profit, all breed dog and cat rescue that functions to reduce the euthanasia rate of healthy and adoptable animals in the nation's overcrowded humane societies and shelters; to aid communities that do not have access to humane organizations; to educate the public on animal health care matters and animal overpopulation issues; to provide affordable veterinary care and training to all animals to enhance their quality of life; to ultimately, build and operate a full service, sliding scale veterinary hospital.
Description
Shelter From the Storm Animal Rescue, Inc. was form in 2005 by Allison Davies in response to the overwhelming amount of animals being euthanized in area shelters. Shelter From The Storm is an all breed cat and dog rescue and focuses on alleviating overcrowding in shelters and helping adoptable/treatable animals. Since its inception, Shelter from the Storm helped the Humane Society of the United States during Hurricane Katrina by transporting over 100 animals to safety in Wisconsin, where they were vetted, placed in foster care and ultimately place in forever homes. We also worked with the HSUS in dealing with a local hoarding situation at the Thyme and Sage Ranch in Richland Center, Wisconsin. Thyme and Sage was operating as an animal rescue and as the animal control agency for that area, but was housing in excess of 300 animals.
Many of our pets are placed into a home environment with a suitable foster home. Here they begin basic training, receive socialization, and learn what it's like to live in a home. We also attend to their medical needs including vaccinations, heartworm testing, feline leukemia/FIV testing, deworming, and flea/tick prevention.
