About

Through supported communication techniques, our volunteers assist HARC in providing wellness programs, advocacy and resources for people with Aphasia (loss of language due to a stroke or brain injury), their caregivers and the Greater Houston Medical Community.

Training in supported communication is available from our 3 licensed speech-language pathologists to assist with communication with persons with aphasia. Participants at HARC struggle with communication as a result of a stroke, brain injury, or other neurological illness. There are many wonderful opportunities for volunteer participation, including:

Conversation Groups
Show and Share Conversation
Music Groups
Art Expression
Exercise Groups
Book Club
Writing Workshops
