JHC Hospice Volunteers provide caring and compassionate support to terminally ill patients of all faiths. Volunteers are valued members of the hospice support team who offer companionship and a caring presence as you simply hold a hand, be a listening presence, share a story or prayer, or offer favorite songs. Once trained, the commitment can be as little as one hour a week of your presence, with flexibility in visiting times and ongoing support with continuing education and opportunities for growth. No matter what your skills, talents or motivation, we have an opportunity for you. Next training starts May 2024.

Mission Statement

Volunteers in Hospice Care are members of a dedicated group of loyal and sensitive individuals who give of themselves to ensure the mission of Hospice care. That mission is to provide services that meet the needs of patients emotionally, physically, practically and spiritually, as they face the last phase of life, dying from a terminal illness. Hospice reflects a spirit and philosophy of caring that focuses on providing total comfort and dignity along with a celebration of life.

Description

The Hospice team of nurses, social workers, chaplains, and nursing assistants speak of Hospice Volunteers as "The Heart of Hospice Care." Volunteers support the organization's mission by sharing unique skills in music, the arts, Reiki, Massage, Pet Therapy or simply enhance lives by being a caring presence, offering heightened listening skills, reading stories, prayers or sharing a patient's favorite recorded music. Your visits reduce patient isolation through compassionate companionship.

Volunteers may also choose to help with bereavement, support for families, and/or office help such as filing, data entry and mailings.
