StandUp For Kids (SUFK) is a national, all-volunteer organization with active programs in 50 U.S. cities. We help youth who are on their own, having run away from or been kicked out of an unsafe (usually abusive) home. They are trying to restart their lives.
The Silicon Valley chapter has an outreach center where homeless and at risk youth can come to hang out safely and leverage various services like getting a hot meal, use computers, take a shower, do laundry, and talking to our volunteer mentors. You can make a real difference in these kids' lives by being a caring and trustworthy adult for them.
We are looking for a FUNDS DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR to schedule programs and events to raise money for our program. If you have 3-4 hours per week and would like to help us, please email siliconvalley@standupforkids.org. Training will be provided!
Volunteers must:
- Submit a criminal background check, with fingerprints
- Make a 6-month commitment
- Have a positive attitude and desire to help our team

Ending the cycle of youth homelessness. We do this in cities across America, one youth at a time.
Description
Youth homelessness continues to be one of the most challenging issues facing our society today:
Over 2 million kids are currently homeless in the US
Youths make up 27% of the total homeless population and are the fastest growing segment
Half of all homeless kids are under the age of 15
13 homeless teens die on the street every day
Teens leave their homes for many different reasons, but ultimately because their home is an unsafe environment. These kids "couch surf" at the homes of their friends if they are fortunate, or find ways to live anonymously on the street if they aren’t so lucky. Some of them go it alone, some of them reach out for help, but all of them dream of a better future.
Our all-volunteer organization, STANDUP FOR KIDS Silicon Valley, helps these homeless teens ages 12-24, by providing them with the basics of food, clothing and hygiene products, assisting them with school, medical and legal issues, getting them vocational training and job search assistance and working with them to create a life plan for that better future they desire. Our core programs are outreach center, mentoring and street outreach.
