General Description: Be able to commit to spending at least one year in a relationship with a Mentee in an ongoing, mentoring relationship (or three semesters if college student)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as a positive role model and friend
- Honor all commitments made to the Mentee and Operation Xcel
- Be respectful of the Mentee’s time, opinions, and decision-making
- Serve as a positive role model by modeling desirable behaviors--e.g. patience, tolerance, and reflective listening
- Be encouraging and supportive of the Mentee
- Strive for mutual respect
- Build self-esteem and motivation
- Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them
- Attend all staff meetings, on-going trainings and periodic mentor support workshops
- Complete appropriate hour logs and forms provided including evaluation surveys, as requested
- Recognize role as a mandated reporter and report any problematic issues
- Be patient and understand the mentoring relationship is a process that takes work and time
- Adhere to all program policies and procedures
- Communicate regularly, submit activity information, and take constructive feedback regarding mentoring activities
- Teach leadership curriculum

Operation Homework: "Equipping Socially, Emotionally and Academically"
Operation Homework seeks to transform the lives of area students by providing them with the support needed to develop strong academic and social skills. We work to empower students to become responsible citizens prepared to succeed in higher education, careers, and in service to the community.
Operation Saturday Academy: "REAL, RELEVANT, ENGAGING"
Operation Saturday Academy offers enriching experiences, which connect real world activities to the subject matter that students are learning in school. Our goal is to compliment academic work and to foster a 'love for learning,’ providing youth with the skills and confidence needed to become productive, forward-thinking creators of their own destiny. We envision these youth maturing to become contributors to the social and economic vitality of their communities.
Operation 3 Steps Ahead Summer Learning: "MAXIMIZING EXCELLENCE"
Our purpose is to engage students in enrichment activities that advance their skills and understanding in the areas of reading and writing, math and science. We also strive to provide students with opportunities to develop character, learn valuable life skills, make new friends, and discover new interests.
